Since joining the National Petroleum Corporation (NPC) in March 2009, Mechelle Smith has held several positions within the organization before becoming its General Manager (Ag.) on July 2021.
As the NPC’s first female GM, Mechelle is tasked with driving a new strategic direction focused on NPC’s role as a clean energy bridge to Barbados.
A graduate of the University of the West Indies, Mechelle holds a Bachelor of Science in Management with Psychology and a Master’s in Business Administration. She also has a Master’s in Industrial Relations from The University of Wales. Mechelle has extensive experience working in people-focused roles across the key operating departments in the tourism and energy sectors.
The NPC is responsible for actioning the Government of Barbados’ National Energy Policy to improve the quality of life of its citizens. It is responsible for the transmission and distribution of natural gas in Barbados through its distribution network.
